Aquaponics, an innovative method of agriculture, aquaculture and hydroponics, combined has accumulated international attention, as people around the world for sustainable, efficient and highly productive methods search the growing fresh food.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens point (UWSP) continuing education, Department of biology and the Northern Aquaculture demonstration facility in partnership with Nelson and PADE, Inc., a Montello, Wisconsin-based company specialized on Aquaponics systems, technology and training now offers 3-credit, full semester course in Aquaponics. Of course, introduction to the Aquaponics, will be offered first for the spring, 2012 semester with open enrollment as of December, 2011.

This public private partnership and the resulting from this UWSP Aquaponics course represents a new stage in the development of the industry of Aquaponics and provides comprehensive training for Aquaponics at the University level.

The course was by Dr. Chris Hartleb together Professor of biology, UWSP, Sarah Kaatz, education Director, Nelson and PADE, Inc., Rebecca L. Nelson and John S. PADE, Nelson and PADE, Inc. Dr. Hartleb, Mrs Kaatz and Mrs Nelson developed, the trainer and interacts with students during online meetings and the practical lab sessions.

The lectures of 1 March - 11 may 2012 run and instead of online, each with a self study session followed by a live chat with one of the three teachers. The practical lab sessions will take place Inc. demonstration greenhouse gas in Montello, WI, May 21-23, 2012 in Nelson and PADE.

Rebecca Nelson shares, "I am very excited about this partnership and the potential that represents it." As the Aquaponics industry grows, one of the major problems is that we face a lack of trained, and well educated people make to occupy greenhouse managers and employees as Aquaponic. The introduction of this course, which has the first of its kind, I think the potential to grow in a small Aquaponics and finally a large at UWSP Aquaponics. "

Of course an introduction and history of Aquaponics, applications and benefits, system components, water includes quality dynamics, environmental control, factory harvest decisions and plant biology, fish and fish biology, integrated pest management and bio-security, daily operations and records, good agricultural practices, economics Aquaponics and marketing.

The course is open to students of the UWSP as well as students from other colleges and universities through UWSP training.
