My goldfish have been dropping similar to flies as well as you need to figure out why. Im guessing you have a miss of great oxygen in a warmer H2O so were starting to supplement a mist conduct to a recirc line to assistance pierce which H2O around. I use a sheet of bamboo twitched together with fine wire, very aesthetic. Otherwise you are doing well, keep it up!
ReplyBeen doing this for many years now and part of succeeding with barrels is to treat them as you would a small aquarium. That means keep it a FULL AS YOU CAN minus what water is cycling into the grow bed, have washed gravel on the floor of the fish water (to assist the breakdown of ammonia) and have some hides for the fish to use to snooze in without always having open sky above which is threatening to fish. Aquatic plants are also a good addition.
Reply@edpozek I use old plastic planters the plants come in. When we had a large pond we would put old christmas trees in the pond to help the small fish hide. Your system really looks good.
ReplyI use a tarp over mine
Reply@GratefulMeds Good idea! I will find something I can add to the tank.
Reply@SpeedGimp Lol thats funny. I was just looking at those things the other day. Think I might have to pick a couple up!
ReplyVent your greenhouse with fans that draw cool air in as well as fans to draw the hot air out .You can control the fans with programmable humidistat and a thermostat daisy chained together It doesnt cost as much as you think and youll be amazed of the results
ReplyI was going to suggest the same as Yaheuben66. Put some sort of barrier so the sunlight is not directly hitting the sides of the tank. Home Depot sells rolls of linked Bamboo to create small privacy fences or garden barriers. That might do the trick. and if handled creatively, might add an aesthetic quality. I think they are about 6 high, so if you go that route, youd probably have to cut the height down.
ReplyPaint the barrel white, or better yet, shade it with a cover that doesnt touch the barrel. Talapia would tolerate the heat better, too
I love your updates and appreciate your sharing
Replypossibly give the fish a few hiding spots and they wont get stressed and die??
